Possible Grammy Boycott

Tue Jan 15, 2008 5:56 am by Michelle

HOLLYWOOD - Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, 50 Cent and Jon Bon Jovi are considering boycotting this year's Grammy Awards ceremony in support of the Hollywood writers strike.
The annual ceremony is under threat of cancellation after celebrities from the music industry pledged their allegiance to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) union members.
Prince, Alicia Keys, Fantasia, Nelly Furtado, Tim McGraw, Kelly Clarkson, the White Stripes, Fergie and Usher are also threatening to boycott the event, scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on Feb. 10, reports the New York Daily News.
A source tells the publication, "The writers are especially interested in artists who might perform on the show. If they pull out, the show comes apart."
But a spokesman for the WGA says, "As of now, the Guild has not taken a position on the Grammys."

NOTE: In the event the ceremony is cancelled or boycotted, the Grammy winners wills till receive their awards. The strike only effects the awards show, not the awards itself.

For thoe not aware of the Writers strike and what it's about, it's a union labor dispute as writers are fighting for their pay, benefits, and other things they have both earned and deserved while producers are trying to bust up the union. Most actors, TV personalities, and recording artsts are behind the union and writers. Kelly Clarkson is in fact an actress and writer, belonging to the screen actors guild (following J2K and several television guest roles) and has written at least 2 screen plays making her a writer (she has also mentioned this in old interivews form a couple of years ago). In order for the celebrity lineup to attend the Grammy's, they would have to cross the union pickit line, which many will not due out of respect and support for the writers who they work with, and cannot have a movie or tv show (and some video's and radio shows) without.
A more detailed look into it can be found by searching Google for 'Writers Strike'.
